How Crypto Turned Attention Into Liquidity

In crypto, attention can move from a meme, post, account, or group chat into actual market activity with almost no distance between them.

The weirdest thing crypto did was put a buy button directly beside internet culture.

A meme gets funny. A phrase catches on. Some anonymous account posts a ticker. Telegram wakes up. Screenshots start moving around. Five minutes later people are putting actual money behind the joke.

There are very few places online where attention converts into financial activity that quickly.

That is what makes crypto feel so fucking strange compared with normal media.

On Instagram, attention might eventually become brand deals.

On YouTube, attention becomes ad revenue.

On TikTok, maybe it sells a product.

Those systems have distance between the moment somebody cares and the moment money moves.

Crypto can collapse that distance down to seconds.

See thing. Like thing. Buy thing.

This is especially obvious with meme coins because the asset and the content are often basically the same object.

The joke is the marketing.

The holders are the distribution network.

The chart becomes content.

The content moves the chart.

Then the chart creates more content because now people can post green candles, wallet screenshots, "I told you" replies and increasingly stupid memes.

It is a feedback loop with a price attached.

That does not mean attention automatically creates durable value. Obviously not. The internet can become obsessed with something at lunch and forget it existed by dinner.

But short-term attention is still capable of producing very real market activity.

You can watch it happen socially before you understand it financially.

A ticker starts appearing in reply sections where it was not showing up yesterday. Bigger accounts begin making jokes about it without formally "calling" it. People start using the meme outside the original community. The Telegram fills with new usernames asking the exact same three questions. Suddenly everyone has a screenshot of the chart.

The culture starts moving before anybody writes the clean explanation of why it is moving.

This is probably why crypto people obsess over mindshare so much.

They are not just being social-media-brained. Attention can be part of the market structure.

A project nobody is talking about has one problem.

A project everybody is talking about has an entirely different set of problems.

The dangerous part is that this relationship makes it very easy to confuse popularity with quality.

If attention can create liquidity, then successful attention looks intelligent after the fact.

A stupid meme goes up 40x and suddenly people write essays about its cultural resonance.

Maybe it had cultural resonance.

Maybe a lot of people just thought the frog was funny at the same time.

Crypto is incredible at reverse-engineering deep reasons for whatever just went vertical.

The other consequence is that creators, traders, meme pages, anonymous accounts and community operators all end up participating in the same machine even when they have completely different motives.

One person is making jokes.

One is trying to grow an account.

One is holding a bag.

One is hunting momentum.

One genuinely loves the community.

From the outside, all of that activity looks like attention. Markets do not get a little label explaining why each person posted.

This is why the line between culture and promotion gets so blurry in crypto.

The internet already knew how to turn attention into followers.

Crypto gave the followers a swap button.
