SOLD REALITY
ORGANIC THOUGHT DUMPS

Normal Is Hard to Remember

The internet is crowded with competent, polished accounts. The ones people remember usually have one strange edge that makes them recognizable.

Normal is unbelievably hard to remember online.

Not bad. Not ugly. Not wrong.

Just normal.

A clean profile picture. Sensible bio. Decent posts. Correct opinions. Nice font. Good lighting. Nothing offensive. Nothing weird.

Gone from my brain in eight seconds.

Then some account with a horrible frog avatar, one sentence in the bio and a running joke about being banned from Monaco shows up twice and I remember it for six months.

That is probably unfair.

It is also how memory works on a feed full of people competing for half a second of attention.

The interesting part is that “memorable” does not necessarily mean loud.

Some accounts are memorable because they barely talk.

Some use one strange colour for everything.

Some have a very specific writing rhythm.

Some are aggressively low effort.

Some seem like they were designed by a person who hates design.

There just has to be an edge somewhere.

The problem with trying to make an account broadly acceptable is that you usually sand the edge off first.

The weird username gets replaced.

The dumb recurring joke disappears.

The bio becomes “Building the future of X.”

The visuals become clean enough to belong to any startup on Earth.

Congratulations. You have created an account nobody can describe.

I think this is why slightly weird brands and anonymous accounts can feel so much larger than they are. They give your brain something to hold onto.

You may not even like them.

But you know which one I mean.

That is already a massive advantage.
